Maybe, that is just what you need a while to break the ice and start actively dating again. However, like in a regular dating scene, there are issues that should be addressed.

Respect is important in any relationship, even online. Treat your online date properly and with respect. If you have a schedule for chatting, respect that schedule as if you would a date or meeting outside the cyberworld.

Take as much time as you need to develop a good sense of communication and rapport. Asks questions, but respect privacy. Be honest and share common interests, information, but beware of giving any personal and financial/ID information. Cyberspace may be far away, but it certainly is fast, and you may lose your identity in a flash. Also, do not share with others any information that is of a private nature to this person, such as pictures of family, friends, and himself/herself that were meant only for you.

Develop a fun attitude and exchange. If communication is feeling alright, and your are starting to feel at ease about encouraging an online romance, share some digital pictures of your favorite things, pets, places you like … and anything that will make your chats fun. Also, share some favorite music, paintings, sceneries of your state, and even email greeting cards. There are many creative ways to make an online romance fun.

When you feel ready to take the next step, try meeting this person on a real date, if the person is also ready. Pick the place, and if you are not one hundred percent at ease, bring a friend and tell him/her to do the same. It will help break the ice for the encounter. A favorite restaurant is a good idea. For your first encounter you should pick a place with many people around, it pays to be careful.

If everything goes well on this first attempt to enter the dating scene again, then other dates will follow, and you should be on your way to enjoying romance once more. Always practice common sense and take the necessary precautions when starting to date someone.
